In the Sydney Morning Article, “New
board designed to improve teacher quality, pupil results” the NSW board of
studies and the NSW institute of teachers will be merged “to create a single
new statutory authority with the aim of improving teacher quality and student
outcomes, in a major shake-up to be pursued by the O’Farrell government.”
It is through the use of assessment data
and the knowledge of the curriculum that the improvements in the standard of teaching
will base on in creating the new Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational
Standards, by approval by both houses of Parliament will be in operation next
year.
Tom Alegounarias, the current
president of the Board of Studies would be the president of the new organization.
He said “the amalgamation would allow critical information gained via school
assessment, such as the HSC or NAPLAN, to directly inform the training and
professional development of teachers.”
The assessment data also shows the weakness in areas of grammar
among children could be used to train teachers in instructing in that particular
area. Also the NSW Institute of Teachers main role is to register and
accrediting teachers.
I
think that is a good idea that they are improving the teacher quality and
student income, but even if the teachers is of high quality, it is still up to
the students if they are willing to learn or be motivated to improve their
outcomes.
